Welcome to Auli, a relatively new travel hotspot on the tourist map of India. Auli is a hill station that is getting increasingly popular with the tourists and yet remains refreshingly unexplored in comparison to others of its kind.
Virgin as of now, Auli offers skiing as an activity to keep you warm in the cold winters. It is one of the few places in India where skiing is possible. With cold, harsh winds ruffling your hair and the beautiful, snow-covered landscapes pleasing your eyes, Auli is perfect for a winter or ski vacation. It is one of the few places for the adventurous at heart, to feel at home. The slopes are located up to about 9000 feet higher than the sea level. They are scattered with opaque deodar and oak woods which helps in toning down the raging frosty gale to a bearable, even pleasant breeze. Auli, still untouched by the machine madness of the world, welcomes you to a place that will allow you to enjoy a sensation of pure beauty.
History of Auli
Before the place was developed as a ski resort, Auli slopes served as training grounds for the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force. The 23,490-feet-high Trishul (the weapon of choice for Lord Shiva) was the picture of a unique expedition in 1958. The mountaineers took four days to climb the peak but it took about ninety minutes only to ski down. Also the temple that was built by the great Guru Adi Shankaracharya at Joshimath still exists.
