Har Ki Dun trek is the ultimate journey of joy and excitement. Those, who want to be close to nature available in the form of dense forests, wildlife and mesmerizing valleys, consider this trek as fulfillment of their desire. Also known as the hanging valley of Gods, Har Ki Dun shares its roots with Mahabharata.

Har Ki Dun trek starts from Naitwar Village, which can be easily assessed from Dehradun and Mussoorie by road. The trek is bestowed upon with dense forests of chestnut, wall nut, willoda and chinars and wildlife consisting of various species of birds and animals. The multicolor flowers like Bramhakamal form an ultimate view for the trekkers. 

History of Har Ki Dun Trek
Har ki Dun derives its name from Mahabharata, the famous Indian epic. ‘Har’ refers to Lord Krishna and ‘Dun’ means valley. Thus, the literal meaning of the name of this place is Lord Krishna’s valley. It is believed that Pandavas, the most prominent characters of the epic, climbed to Heaven by following the route of Swargarohini peak.

In order to extract maximum fun and amusement out of Har Ki Dun trek, you must visit this place in the months from mid-April to June and September to October.

Location
Har Ki Dun is located in the westernmost part of Himalayas in Garhwal, at the base of Fateh Parvat. Its border merges with that of eastern part of Himachal Pradesh. Surrounded by Swargarohini peak, it is one of the best trekking locations in Uttaranchal, India.

How to Reach

  • By Rail: You can first reach Haridwar or Dehradun and then follow the route to this place by local transportation facilities.
  • By Air: Dehradun Airport is the nearest airport to the place, from where you can hire jeeps or local transport services.
  • By Road: From Delhi to Dehradun and then to Sankri, from where the actual trek to Har Ki Dun starts.

Climatic Conditions
The climate in the beginning of trek is pleasant, but as you ascent towards final point, the coldness increases at every step.

Clothes to Wear
You must pack woolen clothes in your bag to face the cold temperature in this region.

Tourist Attractions near Har Ki Dun Trek

  • Morinda Tal, which is a trek of 3 km, is the famous lake and origination point of River Morinda Gad.
  • The Yamadwar Glacier, also known as Jaundhar Glacier, is at a distance of 6 km from this place.
