Majorda Beach Print E-mail

Majorda Beach carries the distinction of being the only beach in the world that is famous not just for its silvery, powdery, white sands, but also for its tasty Majorda baked European bread. It was said that the Jesuits of Majorda were the ones who discovered the best Goan toddy here. Goan toddy comes from the sap of coconut palm which is used as leavening for bread baking.

The best bakers of European bread in all of Goa came to Majorda then to exploit the ‘just right’ prepared Goan toddy and baked the most delicious bread. To this day, Majorda bread is still the most sought-after bread in Goa and in some parts of Europe.

Like the bread story, Majorda beach also has an interesting history of its own. It was said that Lord Rama, of the Goan version of Ramayana, was kidnapped and brought up in Majorda as a child. This also adds color to the stature of Majorda beach as one of the more attractive beaches of Goa. Majorda beach is located on a stretch of silvery white and powdery sands in South Goa and is still considered as one of the more serene beaches of Goa. To date, it has remained unspoilt and one can commune in silence with nature amidst the idyllic charm of the place.
