Maravanthe Beach Print E-mail

Maravanthe is a virgin beach with miles and miles of white sand. Flanked by the Arabian Sea on one side and Sauparnika river on the other, it makes for an awesome sight when driving along the National Highway 17. This beach is located about 50 kilometres from Udupi and is close to the magnificent Kodachadri hills.

One of the best ways to experience the beauty of this place is to take a long drive along the coastal road that is lined with greenery. Maravanthe beach is considered to be the second most beautiful natural beaches in the world. It is surrounded by coconut groves which facilitates a gentle breeze across the NH 17.

The town is a repository of rich culture of the Deccan plateau.  The endearing, unspoilt beach and town are still untouched by the vagaries of modernity. The town has maintained its traditional occupations of yoga, dance related forms of Bharatanatyam and fortune telling with astrology.

History of Maravanthe
Very little is known about the history of Maravanthe. It is naturally formed beach with spectacular miles of white sand. It is difficult to find a sight like this, where on one side is a flowing river and the other side of the road, a pristine, white beach.
 
Special attractions in and around Maravanthe:

  •  Belekal Theertha falls: This waterfall is near Baindur. It makes for an idyllic picnic spot
  •  Turtles on the beach during the October and December: Sea turtles migrate to this beach, during mentioned months, to lay eggs every year. They are a spectacular sight, one that cannot be missed.

Nearest Airports
Mangalore is the nearest airport to Maravanthe. From here you can pick either a bus or a taxi to take you to the beach.

Nearest Railway Station
The nearest railheads from Maravanthe are Kundapur (18 km) and Mangalore (110 km). These stations also have transport facilities to get one to the beach.
 
Contacts in Maravanthe:
There are very few resorts or places where you can stay in Maravanthe. The best way is to reach Mangalore or Kundapur and drive down from there. However, there is a resort that goes by the name of Turtle Bay Beach Resort. It has been named so after the phenomena of the turtles visiting the beach during October and December.

Climatic Conditions:
The climate is not really humid as in most sea shores. A pleasant enough temperature with a breezy atmosphere sets it apart.

Best time to visit:
The best season to visit is from August to March.

Mode of Transport: One can hire a taxi from Mangalore or Udupi to get to Marvanthe.

Lodging: Although there are few options available to stay close to the beach, it is recommended that you stay in Udupi or Mangalore and then head towards the beach.
