First, Kombu was only played in the battlefields, marriages and religious activities. Nowadays, it is played with other instruments of Kerala such as Chenda melam, Panchavadyam, Panchari melam and group performance. It was also played in a very popular serial of Doordarshan titled “Tipu Sultan”.
