History of Kathgodam
The literal meaning of Kathgodam is "stock house of wood". Kathgodam was earlier a very small village established in the year 1901 having a population of only 375 people. Its importance was known only when the railway line was extended here in the late 19th century, and when the railway line reached Haldwani in 1884. This place is known as the last railway station in the history of Indian Railways. From this point one can travel by automobiles to the Kumaon region of Himalayas Mountains. There are many other trains running from the other cities like from Howrah, Lucknow, Mathura, Dehradun etc.
- By Air: Pantnagar is 70 km away from Nainital which is the nearest airport for one to go from Kathgodam.
