Vythiri is a small town which lies in the Wayanad district in the state of Kerala. When visiting here, you would surely be amused by the ambience the beautiful surrounding, and environment.

Vythiri is located at an altitude of 3750-4500 feet above sea level and experiences a pleasant climate throughout the year. It is surrounded by dense forests and the views are simply magnificent. Vythiri is world famous for its evergreen rain forests and plantations of coffee, tea, rubber, cardamom and pepper.

With a small population and amazing sceneries, it attracts a lot of nature lovers and people looking for solace and peace. People from nearby cities and states visit here and the long stretch of forests and greenery serve as a popular picnic spot.

History of Vythiri
The town of Vythiri has been closely associated with historical events and its history roots back to 18th century, when it was ruled by the Veda kings. Later, it was occupied by the Kottayam family. Since then, the place was ruled by the Hyder Ali, but after Tipu Sultan’s defeat, it was taken over by the British, and the region became an important tea and cash crop cultivation area.

Special attractions in and around Vythiri

  • Suchipara Falls: These falls are located at a distance of 22 kilometers from Kalpetta, amidst dense forests.
  • Muthunga Wildlife Sanctuary: This wild life sanctuary is located around 55 kilometers from Vythiri and is home to many animals like Cheetal, Sambhar, Leopards, Deer and Elephants.
  • Thirunelli Temple: Thirunelli is a beautiful spot and a houses the popular Thirunelli temple in its forest area. This temple is also referred to as 'Thekkan Kasi'.
  • Chembra Peak: This 6890 feet peak is the tallest peak of the whole area and is great for trekking.

  • Lakkidi: Lakkidi, also known as the ‘Gateway of Wayanad’, is a popular hill station in the state of Kerala.
  • Pookote Lake: This place is located around a kilometer away from Vythiri and is a great place for kayaking and boating.
  • Edakkal Caves: These caves represent the carvings of Mesolithic Age and Neolithic Age.
