Indian Snakeroot

Indian Snakeroot is a flowering plant with white, pink or red flowers growing in whorls. The flowers have five petals and are very attractive. They grow in bunches and look beautiful. These flowers can be used in gardens or landscapes as well.

Indian Snakeroot has large leaves in whorls of three. They are slender, lanceolate, acute with bright green above and pale beneath. That makes the plant more beautiful. The fruits are black and shinning when ripe with tiny oval shape. The plant grows to the height of 60 cm and the spacing of 45 cm. This plant is used medicinally in folk medicine, unani, Ayurveda and in the Modern Western Medical system.

Uses: This plant is used for treatment of high blood pressure in Ayurveda. The roots of the plant are used to treat hypertension and are used as antidote to the bites of poisonous snakes and other reptiles. It also helps cure dysentery and other painful infections of the intestinal canal.
