Set in a peaceful ambience, Almora is positioned away from the bright city lights and the busy towns of Uttaranchal. It is situated at the top at a peak that is half circular and it’s a town shaped into like a horse shoe. Every part of Almora is filled with the extraordinary beauty of its scenery and the town has an ancient foreboding look which sets it apart from the other hill stations in India.

Almora is also called a town of temples and as if to justify that, placed in the centre of town is the temple of goddess Nanda Devi. Almora also boasts of many different types of fruit orchards like apples, peaches, apricots, plums. This is also one of the reasons as to why it is so well known. If one is in need of an escape from the busy life in the metros, they need not look any further than this paradise, waiting for your visit.

History of Almora
According to devotees’ belief, Almora was ruled by the Katyur Empire since the 9th century AD. In 1560, Almora was the capital of the Chand rulers. Up until the 18th century Almora was occupied by the Chand Empire. The Gurkhas invaded it in 1798 and after the Gurkha wars of 1814-1815, the British imposed their rule over this place. Almora has, since then, kept its preeminence as a cultural and executive centre and an imperative market town for the region alive.
