Chakrata is known for its peaceful environment and unpolluted atmosphere. The northern region of Chakrata sub-division offers a wonderful landscape and is therefore, paradise for nature lovers and trekkers. There is a widespread forest of coniferous trees, rhododendrons and oaks that are ideal for long walks, scattered with Jaunsari villages along the edges.
Chakrata also houses a cantonment township. Between the months of November to April visitors can enjoy the pleasure of skiing. The skiing area is located on the northern side, on a mountain called Mundali, which is 9000 ft high. Chakrata almost serves as an entry point to a whole new world, figuratively, of nature’s pure beauty and spectacular environment.
History of Chakrata:
Chakrata was originally under the rule of British Indian Army. The cantonment was well-known in 1866 and was first occupied by the troops and officers in April 1869. Due west lies Himachal Pradesh and due east are Mussoorie and Landour. Also, it is the permanent stronghold of the enigmatic and selected, Special Frontier Force or the Establishment 22 (called "Two-Two"), the only ethnic Tibetan unit of the Indian Army, which was raised after the Indo-China War of 1962.
Special Attractions in Chakrata:
- Tiger Fall: A gorgeous waterfall which comes down from a height of 50 metres and then accumulates into a small pond, increasing the scenic value of the place. It is located in the north east of Chakrata and is at a height of 1395 m, above sea level.
- Lakhamandal: This place has historical and mythological significance, dating back to the Mahabharata. The saying goes that: the Kaurvas built a shelter house and conspired to burn the Pandavas alive here. It is located on the banks of Yamuna and is 35 km away. It has temples devoted to Diva, the five Pandava brothers, Parasuram and Kedar.
- Devban: A place that is surrounded by opaque forests and provides a magnificent view of the majestic Himalayan ranges.
Best Time to Visit Chakrata:
Chakrata can be visited throughout the year. However, the best time really is during the winter season, as the the place boasts of added snowfall to the pure beauty already existent.

Climatic Conditions
Summer: Fairly pleasant throughout the whole season with reasonable temperatures
