Kasauli is a small town, which lies in the Solan district in the state of Himachal Pradesh. The ambience and the beautiful surroundings of this town transport you back in time to the 19th century.

Barely 35 kilometres from Kalka and 77 kilometres from Simla, this small town sports the colonial lifestyle. Kasauli is located at an altitude of 1,927 meters above sea level and experiences pleasant climate throughout the year. It is surrounded by dense forests and the views are simply magnificent. This small town has only one marketplace, where you can shop for both; handicrafts and daily utility products.

With a small population and amazing sceneries, Kasauli attracts a lot of nature lovers and people looking for solace and peace. People from nearby cities and states visit here and the long stretch of forests and greenery serve as a popular picnic spot.

History of Kasauli
This beautiful, small town in the heart of Himachal Pradesh was developed and maintained by the British during their reign in India. Kasauli can be related to important Pastur institute which produces ‘anti-rabies’ vaccines. This institute was formed in 1900 and is the oldest of its kind, in India. This institute takes care of pets and dogs used by the security forces of the country. Another important centre in this region is the ‘Central Research Institute’ which produces vaccinations for diseases like cholera, small-pox, typhoid and snake-bites. The small town, thus, holds important value in terms of providing medication and is well-known for the old centres for research and development of these important vaccinations.

Climatic Conditions: Kasauli experiences pleasant climate throughout the year, though the winters can be quite cold.

Clothing: Light woollen clothing during summers and heavy woollens are recommended in winters.

Tourist attractions near Kasauli

  • Monkey Point: This is the highest point in Kasauli and presents an excellent view of the distant plains. A temple, dedicated to Lord Hanuman, is also situated here.
  • Sanawar: Sanawar is located at a distance of 6 km from this small town and houses one of the best schools in the country.
  • Christ Church: This old church was built by the British family, who were the founders of Kasauli.
  • Dagshai: 19 kilometres away from Kasauli, this small town has been greatly neglected and not many tourists visit here. Dagshai offers a beautiful environment and is surrounded by holly and oak forests.
  • Sabathu: This town was home to the British soldiers and also houses a Gurkha Fort that was built in the 19th century.
