History of Nainital
According to the beliefs of locals, King Daksha detained a great 'Yajna' but did not call Parvati and her companion Shiva. Parvati could not stand this straight abuse, and in her immense furious temper, Parvati sneaked in into the 'Yajna' ground and hurdled into the high flames of 'Yajna' fire with the decision to end her life here. Afterwards, Lord Shiva recovered her half-charred corpse himself. Many of the local people deemed that the eyes of Sati fell into the lake while her body was being carried by Lord Shiva to Kailesh Parvat. Thus, the lake was given the name of 'Nainital' or Naini lake and is one of the most famous attractions visited by tourists.
