Pithoragarh is located near the Himalayas and is the perfect place for people looking for pure, untouched natural beauty or even for those who love a spot of adventure and love racy mountain peaks. It is often referred to as 'Miniature Kashmir', owing to its similarity to Jammu and Kashmir.
It is located at an elevation of 1,650 metres above sea level. The major languages spoken here include Hindi, Kumaoni and English. Pithoragarh’s Centre of Operations and the government buildings are housed in the mount garrison of Pithoragarh, 7 kilometres from the main town. Chadak Hill, which is about 2000 metres above sea level, offers an excellent view of the snowfall as it blankets the peaks of Nanda Devi and mount Appi of Nepal.
History of Pithoragarh
Pithoragarh was part of the region of Almora. It became a separate district in 1960 and is now known for its natural, pure beauty and the marvellous views it offers of the Himalayas. Peaks like Nanda Devi and Nandakhat are found in the district with some magnificent scenery. Some of the finest glaciers in the world such as Milam Glacier, Ralam Glacier, Namik Glacier can be found in Pithoragath.

Best Time to Visit Pithoragarh
The period from March to June and/ or mid-September to October is the best time to visit here unless one wishes to come enjoy the monsoons here during the other months.
