Sattal is a magnificent hill station, known mainly for its lakes and Oak forests. The natural beauty of this place has not been adulterated by modern setups and thus, it is proficient in grabbing the attention of tourists.

Sattal, which means seven tals or lakes, is not less than a paradise. It is located at the height of 1370 m and is surrounded by thick oak and pine forests. It is considered as a camping destination and is visited my tourists in large number. The place is also a house for various species of migratory birds, fishes and butterflies. Water sports and adventurous activities like hiking, backpacking, rappelling and rock climbing describe the importance of this place.
  
Tourist Attractions in Sattal

  • Most important attraction of Sattal is cluster of seven lakes, which are named as Nal Damayanti Tal, Garud Tal, Ram Tal, Sita Tal, Lakshman Tal, Purna Tal and Sukha Tal.
  • A beautiful church backed by Sattal Mission Estate and Methodist Ashram is a tourist attraction worth visitng.
  • Butterfly museum located here offers wide species of butterflies and insects.
  • The fresh water spring, known as Subhash Dhara is another attraction of Sattal.

Best Time to Visit
The months belonging to summer season are best to visit Sattal to enjoy most pleasant weather conditions. Thus, it is best to visit this place in the months from March to June. Choosing to visit here in the months from September to December is also a good option, if you have affinity towards cold weather.

Location
Sattal is located at a distance of 22 km from Nainital. It is located in Bhimtal town of Nainital district, which is a part of Uttaranchal State. You can also refer to Lower Himalayan Ranges, while specifying the location of Sattal.
 
How to Reach

  • Nearest Airport: Pantnagar is the nearest airport, from where you can hire taxi to Sattal.
  • Nearest railway Station: The most convenient way to reach Sattal is by first reaching nearby railway head at Kathgodam. From here, you can hire taxi service.
  • By Road: You can follow National Highway 87 to reach Kathgodam, from where you will be diverted on the road to reach this district.

Accommodations in Sattal
Sattal offers a number of comfortable accommodations in the form of guest houses, camps and hotels.

  • The KMVN Tourist Resort is controlled by Tourism Department of Uttaranchal and provides appreciable facilities to tourists.
  • There are many hotels located at this place and are amongst finest accommodation spots.
  • Also, the Gateway Jungle Camp is a good option for accommodation.

Climatic Conditions
The climate in the summer is warm and pleasant and thus summer is considered as best time for sightseeing. In winters, the climate is extremely cold and leads to heavy snowfalls. The place records average rainfall during monsoon season.
 
Clothing
In winters, you are strictly advised to take woolen clothes with you. However, in summer months, light clothes for day and warm clothes for night are sufficient.

  • Bhimtal, which is famous for Naini Lake, is a wonderful tourist spot around Sattal.
  • Naukuchia Tal is one of the most beautiful lakes in the region and is located at the distance of 4 km from Bhimtal.
  • Bhowali is known for its fruit market and landscapes.
  • Golu Temple is a religious place located at Ghorakhal near Bhowali and is a place worth visiting.
