Located in the northern portion of the walled city, Kashmere Gate is one of the four existing grand entrances to the city of Shahjahanabad. It was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. During the 1857 War of Indian Independence, the British used this gate to enter Delhi.

Safdarjung Tomb was built in 1753 by Nawab Shuja-ud-daulah in the memory of his father Mirza Muqim Abul Mansor Khan, who was popularly known as Safdarjung. To a large extent, the tomb’s design is similar to the Humayun’s Tomb layout. However, the differences are there that make Safdarjung Tomb worth watching.

Originally built to affirm the eternalness of the British Empire in India, in the present day, Rashtrapati Bhawan represents the world’s largest democracy. It is the official residence of the President of India. Designed by Edwin Landseer Lutyens, Rashtrapati Bhawan covers an area of 200,000 square feet. It took 17 years, 700 million bricks and Rs. 14 million to build 4 floors and 340 rooms. In other words, the enormity, magnificence and grandeur of the place is simply incomparable.

After the death of Babur, Humayun became the Emperor of India, and in 1534 he founded the city, Dinpannah, the citadel of which is the Purana Qila. In 1540, Shershah Suri captured the city and renamed it Shergarh or Delhi Shershahi. In 1555, the city was re-captured by Humayun who lived in the Purana Qila until his death.
