Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is undoubtedly one of the finest bird parks in the globe. It is a haven for rare fauna, Siberain cranes, water birds and various migratory birds. The bird sanctuary is also home to animals such as Sambhar, Chital, Boar and others.
Bharatpur Bird sanctuary lies in the Bharatpur district of Rajasthan. It is home for more than three hundred species of exotic birds. This wildlife park is mainly made of scrublands, grasslands and marshy lands. It is also known as Keoladeo Ghana National Park that refers to the ancient Shiva temple that is situated amidst the dense forest land.
There are good forest trails that are covered on foot or on a rickshaw or riding on a cycle. These vehicles can be brought on hire basis. Some of the rickshaw pullers are also experienced and trained people who could give in-depth knowledge of all the flora and fauna in the wildlife sanctuary. You can even arrange an exciting boat trip for an evening rendezvous with the wildlife creatures of the bird sanctuary.

The majority of tourists that visit the park are hugely attracted by the wonderful exotic migratory bird species that come from all over the world to spend their winter in this Indian paradise. Some of the birds found in this park are pelicans, geese, cranes, ducks, eagles, hawks, stints, wagtails, larks, flycatchers, shanks, warbles, etc.
This wonderful wildlife sanctuary was developed by a Maharaja of medieval India. During monsoon season, the town was frequently flooded due to water logging and a dam was built to save the town from the perils of rainy season. The dam was constructed out of mud, and the depression thus created by soil extraction was later developed as Bharatpur lake.

The Bird Sanctuary covers an area of more than 29 sq. km and is located in Bharatpur District of Rajasthan State in India.

- By Road: Bharatpur is conveniently connected by road to cities such as Agra, Delhi and Jaipur. These cities are at a distance of approximately 5 to 6 hours from Bharatpur.
