Chithirapuram was earlier one of the most underrated hill stations of Kerala. However, with a boom in tourism industry, the hill station recognized its real worth as a cherished tourist destination. The place is famous for tea plantations and all other good reasons. As a result, there is availability of huge number of tourist packages to this place.

The hill station of Chithirapuram remained away from the tourism industry for long time. But, the place has discovered its true worth in recent times and has emerged as an outstanding tourist place. The place is famous for its picturesque beauty and also for its agriculture. It is the house of one of the nurseries set up by The Spices Board of Kerala.

The hill station is a great place for an array of activities like trekking, hiking and nature walking. It is easy to find accommodation at nearby locations like Kumily, Munnar, Thekkady and others.

History of Chithirapuram
Chithirapuram, the name is derived from the name of Sri Chithirathirunal, the ruler of Travancore State. It is believed that the ruler visited this hill station in the third decade of 20th century. Thus, the place got its name as the place for Chithira, and thus we know this place as Chithirapuram.

Attractions of Chithirapuram
The hill station of Chithirapuram is the house of a number of places of tourist interest. Thus, one may come across following admirable attractions during a visit to this beautiful hilly area:

  • Pallyvasal Hydel Power Project: Chithirapuram is famous for the Pallyvasal Hydel Power Project, which is an important project for the place.
  • Mathupetty Reservoir: This reservoir is another exciting place to visit, as it is famous for its speedboat racing.
  • Indo-Swiss farm: This is also included in the list of main attractions of this hill station.
  • Tea Plantations: More than anything else, the place is famous for its tea plantations, which have attracted the attention of film-makers as well.

Location
Chithirapuram is at the distance of 10 km from Munnar, the beautiful town of Idukki district of Kerala. This hill station is located on the top of Sahayadris.

How to reach Chithirapuram
In order to visit this hill station, one has to visit Munnar, which is at the distance of only 12 km from the Cochin International Airport.

Tourist attractions near Chithirapuram
Apart from tea plantations and other areas of scenic importance, the hill station is located near to Munnar, which is an excellent tourist location.
