Chattarpur Temple, built by Swami Nagpal Maharaj, is the second largest temple in India. In addition to the main temple, which is dedicated to Goddess Durga, there are several smaller shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, Lord Ram, Lord Ganesh and Sri Krishna-Radha. During Navratri and Durga Puja, the temple becomes a focal point of celebrations.

Special Attractions in and around Chattarpur Temple
Before the construction of Akshardham Temple, Chattarpur Temple was the largest temple in India and second largest in the world. The principal deity of the temple is Goddess Durga. However, within the temple complex there are several temples dedicated to other deities like Lord Ram, Lord Shiva, Sri Krishna-Radha and Lord Ganesh. The entire temple is made up of marble and the architecture is primarily South Indian.

In the main temple, two forms of Goddess Durga are venerated, Maha Gauri and Goddess Katyayani. While the shrine of Maha Gauri is open for reverence on all days, the shrine of Goddess Katyayani can be worshipped only on ‘ashtami’ or eighth day of every month or during Navratri. Another interesting feature in the temple complex is the ancient tree, which is literally covered with holy thread and bangles. According to a legend, whoever ties a thread or bangle around the tree, his wishes are fulfilled

Chattarpur Temple remains open on all days. The best time to visit the temple is during the Navratri Festival when it becomes the centre of attraction in Delhi.
