Located between the Western Ghats and the Lakshadweep islands, Kannur is one of the most important costal areas of Kerala. It is situated 312 km from Kochi. By it name, this place is known as place of Lord Krishna (Kannan means Lord Krishna and Ur means place).

This coastal town of Kerala is structured triangularly and was known as the ‘great Emporium of Spice Trade’ in the 13th century. The St. Angelo fort in Kannur is quite old and built in 1505.

Attractions in Kannur

  • Sundareswara Temple – This temple is dedicated to lord Shiva and also has the idols of lord Ganesha and Subramonia.
  • Mavilakavu Temple – Very famous for its 5 day fair and interesting customs and rites, this temple is located 5 km from Kannur.
  • Urpazhachivaku Temple – This temple is well known for its beautiful wood carvings of Ramayana and proffers its visitors a beautiful sight.
  • Besides these temples, Kannur is occupied with various beautiful beeches such as Payyambalam Beach, Kizhunna Ezhara Beach, Muzhapilangad Beach etc whose golden sand and tranquil water forms an exclusive combination for its visitors.
